Nani, Right Winger
Possible Destinations: Real Madrid, Arsenal, Tottenham, Zenit St. Petersberg, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Roma
Transfer Value: 36.5 Million Euros

Nani’s move away from old Trafford is widely expected after falling out with manager sir Alex Ferguson. The Portuguese winger has been plagued by nagging injuries this calendar year and has struggled with fitness. He has also developed the reputation for being inconsistent, but there is no doubting Nani’s abilities. The ability to make defenders look foolish with his fancy footwork, his precise crosses into the box and his panache for goals from a long distance makes him an attractive commodity.

Nani’s long range goal during Euro2012 qualification against Bosnia-Herzegovina is a personal highlight. It is unclear which team is the front-runner but it is likely that Nani will go to a team where he could play every match. But a lot of that depends on how much Manchester United is willing to let him go for and how much certain teams are willing to pay. Roma reportedly wants him on loan while Juventus, AC Milan, and others are hoping for a reduced price.

Manuel Fernandes, Central Midfielder
Possible Destinations: Real Zaragoza, Liverpool, Tottenham
Transfer Value: 11 Million Euros

An interesting possibility for some teams. Fernandes is currently playing in Turkey after some disappointing years in Spain and England. Since moving to Besiktas in 2011, Fernandes has been one of the outstanding performers in the Turkish league. At age 26, many still hope that he could fulfill the potential that has so far eluded him.

It was widely rumoured that Fernandes was trying to force a transfer to Real Zaragoza in the summer. Besiktas’ financial problems are well-known and they might just have to cash in on him. The team are reportedly paying him a handsome sum and might decide that it is too much. Liverpool and Tottenham have been rumoured to be interested.

Fabio Coentrao, Left Back
Possible Destinations: Arsenal, Tottenham
Transfer Value: 22 Million Euros

A supremely talented player, who has struggled to live up to expectations after his big money move to Real Madrid in 2011. Manager Jose Mourinho has largely used him in a defensive role rather than going forward, which has led to harsh and sometimes unfair criticism in the Madridista media. But fans of Portugal and his former club Benfica are very familiar with his abilities and what he could add to a club.

A recent rumour has Coentrao being involved in a transfer that would bring Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. The deal might end up working out well for him. He is likely to get more playing time and may flourish under Portuguese coach Andre Villas-Boas. Plus, Tottenham need help at left-back even with Gareth Bale on the team. Coentrao would help to shore up a sometimes questionable defence. Arsenal are said to be interested but it is unlikely that they will pay a high price for him.

Hugo Almeida, Striker
Possible Destinations: West Ham, Tottenham, Everton
Transfer Value: 7 Million Euros

Big strong centre-forward, who saw his quality tip with the national team after joining Besiktas in January 2011. But so far this season, he has been well on target with 9 goals in 13 league matches. Almeida also recently scored in a friendly for Portugal against Gabon and appears to be back in good standing with Portuguese manager Paulo Bento.

With Besiktas barred from European competition this season, it is unlikely that the Turkish club can keep him and Manuel Fernandes for that much longer. Transfer rumours remain relatively subdued on Almeida but many people feel that he could be looking for a change and the Premier League seems like a good fit given his size and strength.

Joao Moutinho, Midfielder
Possible Destinations: Tottenham, PSG, Zenit St. Petersberg
Transfer Value: 26 Million Euros

One of the best box-to-box midfielders in futebol right now. An deep-lying midfielder that is excellent on both sides of the pitch. He was also one of the best performers in this summer’s European championships for Portugal. Moutinho has been the motor of the Porto offensive since his move from Sporting Lisbon in 2010 but now at age 26 has outgrown the Liga Portuguesa and is ready for a new challenge.

It is well known that Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas favours Moutinho from his days at the Dragao. The Spurs missed out on Moutinho in the last hours of this summer’s transfer period but they are widely expected to pursue the Portuguese star as part of their plan to shore up their midfield. Since Porto remains in the Champions league and could very well win another league title, they are likely to demand a big price for their midfield maestro’s services.
