Cristiano Ronaldo was on target on Sunday scoring Real Madrid’s third and fourth goal, two minutes apart in another disjointed performance by Jose Mourinho’s club. Former Portugal international Ricardo Carvalho also played the full 90 minutes in Real’s 4-3 victory over Real Sociedad. Karim benzema and Sami khedira also scored for Los Blancos.

The game was not short of drama, as is always the case with Real Madrid these days. Spanish Goalkeeper Iker Casillas again started the game on the bench, but was forced into action after his replacement Adan received a straight red card for bringing down Carlos Vela in the box. Real were shorthanded until Real Sociodad defender Dani Estrada received a second yellow in the 79th minute of play.

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has received some fierce criticism from Real Madrid fans after benching Casillas late last month. He was whistled at by fans before this game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu but Mourinho said that these gestures do not faze him.

“Whistles? for me that is perfect,” said Mourinho after the game. “It is normal for people to whistle at me, because that is how I like to live my life. I do not always want to be the hero. If they whistle because Casillas is on the bench, I think it is good, and if they whistle because of the poor state of the team, I accept that.”

Archrivals Barcelona beat Espanyol 4-0 on Sunday at the Camp Nou. Real Madrid still linger in third place, 16 points behind the Catalan club.
