Sporting’s victory against Paços de Ferreira in the Taça da Liga competition on Wednesday has “improved the attitude and well-being of the players,” at the Lisbon club, according to manager Jesualdo Ferreira.

Ferreira added that it is the first step in a long road to playing like a team. Sporting will face Olhanense in the Algarve on Sunday. Ferreira responded to Olhanense’s new manager Manuel Cajuda claiming that his side is the favourite going into the match.

“It will be a difficult game mentally, but there is more pressure on his players. It must be the first time that Sporting is not the favourite against Olhanense,” Jesualdo said with a chuckle.

Jesualdo also confirmed that Portugal international Miguel Lopes will be in the squad for the match and could start. Lopes was acquired this week from Porto in a swap that saw Russian midfielder Marat Izmailov go the other way.

“From the conversation I had with him (Lopes), he is ready to play. But it all depends on the medical department. If everything is fine he will play for sure.”
