Sporting Braga have officially announced the signing of left-back Joãozinho from Beira-Mar. The 23-year-old played the second half of last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon. In 27 total league matches, he scored one goal and pitched in another 4 assists for both Beira-Mar and Sporting Lisbon.

He is likely to compete with Florent Hanin for the starting position on the left side. Elderson, who was the club’s starting left-back last season is expected to leave this summer.

“For me, it is a great honour to represent a club with the history of Sporting Braga. I do not have any doubt that this is a step forward in my career and I will do all I can to honour this sweater,” Joãozinho said Friday at the news conference.

Joãozinho will once again play under Jesualdo Ferreira who managed Sporting Lisbon at the second half of last season. “Professor Jesualdo has really helped my career and it will be once again a great honour to continue to evolve under one of the best Portuguese managers.”
