FC Porto have signed goalkeeper Sinan Bolat on a free transfer from Belgian club Standard Liège. The 24-year old is expected to challenge Brazilian Fabiano as Helton’s eventual successor.

Bolat has until now only played football in Belgium, beginning with FC Zonhoven and then Genk. In 2009, he moved on to Standard Liège. He did not appear in a single club match last season after suffering a serious knee injury in June 2012.

Bolat has received 6 caps for the Turkish national team. He stands at a physically imposing 1,90m and trained with his new club for the first time on Monday in Olival.

He has the special distinction of being the only goalkeeper in history to score a goal in the Champions League. Bolat scored on a header late in a group stage match against AZ Alkmaar on 9 December 2009.
